Education department
We aim at improving the educational standards of school aged children and young adults who reside in the Kibera slum. We offer formal education to school aged children through utilizing the government syllabus, informal education to school dropouts and non-schooled youth, continuous education to teachers and seminars to parents (guardians) who live in Kibera.
The department objective is to support and implement formal and informal educational programs to any Kibera resident who wants to grow in knowledge with the desire of becoming responsible and productive citizens of Kenya.
Apart from academics all our institutions provide spiritual, social and moral formation for holistic education. They also facilitate the emotional development of the children through guiding and counseling and physical development through feeding program and co-curricular activities.
The department successfully coordinates the activities of eight learning institutions; Lainisaba nursery and primary, three St. Bakhita Montessori nurseries, a computer college, a vocational technical centre on masonry and carpentry, Living Water tailoring and hair dressing school.
The department manages the parish library which is utilized by students from more than 88 schools located in Kibera and representing eight villages. It provides the community at large a wide range of books, students’ text books, maps, newspapers and magazines with the aim of improving their knowledge and feelings of self worth. The library motto is: “Reading is the pathway to knowledge”.
