Fighting Malnutrition in Kibera

by Integral Human Development Department

Malnutrition is a major problem in Kibera community caused by poverty. Most people do not have good jobs to sustain themselves well financially and some are single parents. The other thing is low education, which leads to inadequate knowledge of proper diet.

Because of luck of protein in their diets some kids have low weight and even stunned growth depending on the type of malnutrition.

The department has a feeding program for 50 kids, some are HIV positive and one diabetic, previously the parents of the kids used to be given the food, but that was changed, the food will be prepared in the parish thrice per week in-order to monitor how the kids are feed.

The dispensary is usually opened once per month by the Rafiki for Africa Doctors an Italy based organization, who offer their services for free, two general doctors, Camilla and Daniele and one nurse Davide came in August 14th, helped by the congregation of Sisters of the Visitation.

They stayed for five days and the next visit will be for two weeks this month starting from the 18th September.

We invite you to support the feeding program, medicine and other medical equipments for the dispensary.
