Health Talk and Single Mothers Groups
by Dolores Wavinya - Social Communication Department
The Integral Human Development Department is carrying out economic programs to empower groups in order to be self sustainable and also discover their own capacities. This week these two groups were learning and practicing how to bake bread. Rita Neff, a Bethlehem lay missionary from Switzerland specialized in Home Science, Handicraft and Housekeeping led the groups in this initiative.
It was an education moment at first to discover what a cereal is made up of. Secondly, eight steps in making yeast mixture, third, the basic recipe for bread making and fourth the method.
The members divided into groups of twos and prepared their dough. They later baked the bread. It was songs and laughter from the members as they waited for the loaves to cook. Margaret Khasandi, a single mother was happy to comment; from now on she will provide home baked bread whenever her village women group visits her home.
