Parish Pastoral Council Seminar on Parochial Leadership

by Administration Department

Leadership being one of the major challenges in the parish and as well the strongest strong hold, the parish priest organized for a facilitator to give a workshop on parochial leadership. The five-hour meeting that held on 7th August 2011 was very educating and an eye opener to some of the difficulties leaders face.

Fr. Carlos introduced the Facilitator Br. Jacob and stated some of the difficulties the parish was facing on leadership in the five sub-parishes.

“Collaboration is key to developing any parish” Br. Jacob stated, and gave characteristics of a Christian leader, he stressed mostly on having a purpose, seeing the bigger picture. Concern, before we make any action, do we ask ourselves what we need to do for our church? Situation, do we have the skills we need? Influencing people, influential leaders convince and he/she is trustworthy and networking leaders.

He also gave two sample surveys of parishes and listed requirements of leaders having plans of producing positive results in their action plan.

The financial council should be regulated by universal law and norms established by diocesan bishop.

He concluded by stating that we need to pray for the gift of wisdom, seek for knowledge that comes from above, pray for leaders in the church right from the Pope, Bishops and the clergy together with the lay faithful in collaboration so that we may fulfill the mission of the church.
